Discovering the Maramotti Collection

    Discovering the Maramotti Collection

A collection that includes hundreds of works of art to be discovered

In the seventies Achille Maramotti, founder of the famous fashion brand Max Mara, decides to give life to his personal collection of contemporary art in the building in Reggio Emilia which was once the company’s factory and which is now its permanent headquarters. of the collection as well as a place of aesthetic and intellectual use.

The Maramotti Collection is one of the most prestigious Italian collections , which offers a very rich overview of Italian and international works created from 1945 to today , mostly paintings, sculptures and installations .

Several artists are present in the collection: to name a few Alighiero Boetti, Francis Bacon and Jean-Michel Basquiat , each of them represented by significant works from the point of view of contemporary research.

Active since the end of 2007 , the collection has recently been rearranged by the director Sara Piccinini , who has rethought the exhibition to underline the history of this great artistic enterprise.

The entire collection is spread over two floors and follows the chronological order . The first floor houses works by Italian and European artists from the 1940s to the 1980s, while the second exhibits American and European works from the early 1980s and late 1990s.

There are therefore many important works by artists such as Jannis Kounellis and Alberto Burri for Arte Povera , by Domenico Paladino and Sandro Chia for the Transavantgarde and by Gerhard Richter   and Anselm Kiefer for German and American Neo Expressionism.

The aim of the collection, however, is not only to preserve and exhibit great works from the history of contemporary art, but to continue research through numerous temporary exhibitions and the realization of various projects.

Among these, the Max Mara Art Prize for Women , a biennial award open to all forms of artistic expression that promotes and supports young female artists from the United Kingdom by offering them the opportunity to implement their artistic path through a six-month stay in Italy.

We have seen how it is essential for this important reality to constantly enrich one’s collection. This is why it becomes essential for the collection to have a digital archive , in order to have a complete and updated history with all the information on the works of art that are part of the collection.

Among the useful tools for archiving works of art, Art Rights , a platform that offers professionals as well as collectors , the opportunity to document, in complete privacy, all the information on the works of art with over 200 fields that can be filled in. inside the Art Rights Certificate, the first and true “Passport of the work of art”.
