CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Espen Kluge

Espen Kluge was born as a composer, but he discovered his nature as a visual artist through programming.

His NFTs are Javascript-generated portraits that express the balance between human and digital of generative art.

    WHO IS ESPEN KLUGE?

Espen Klugehe is a capable artist to successfully carries on the passion for two disciplines: in fact, he is a composer for television and a digital artist.

If in creating music he abides by the rules of composition, art is a space where he feels free to test the expansion of the boundaries of visual representation.

The programming experience acquired during the development of a never completed musical project comes to his aid.

What seems like a failure turns into an opportunity and Kluge begins experimenting with programming to create images.

The contact with Crypto Art comes in 2019 when the curator of one of his physical exhibitions proposes him to coin his first NFT .

    HIS ART

In 2019 Espen Kluge debuts with “Alternatives”, a series of 100 NFT portraits generated with Javascript and distributed on OpenSea and SuperRare .

The work on personal interiority is the leitmotif of Kluge’s production. His works arouse a sense of disorientation in the viewer because they play with our evolutionary ability to read a face.

The decomposed portraits are created thanks to the generative abilities of an algorithm programmed by the artist to overturn our most familiar points of reference such as posture and expression.

The result is images that our brain immediately encodes as portraits, but which have an ethereal, synthetic and inhuman consistency in their familiarity.

A completely innovative perspective on generative art that is often criticized for its lack of human warmth. Kluge’s portraits manage to perfectly combine this feeling with an element of the unknown characteristic of algorithmic presence.

CURATOR ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS ABOUT ESPEN KLUGE

Eleonora Brizi, curator and founder of Breezy Art, who curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book “Crypto Art Begins” writes about Espen Kluge:

In the interview with Espen Kluge, he reflected deeply on how programming is his main weapon. However, he never perfected this skill, because if he had been an expert programmer perhaps his art would have been different. Perhaps more aware, but less experimental and less spontaneous ”.
