The NFTs of Giant Swan come out of the movement

Giant Swan is one of the 50 artists featured in ‘CRYPTO ART – Begins’, the first NFT book chronicling the history and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” recounts the exciting beginnings and evolution of Crypto Art through the history and work of 50 of the world’s best artists who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of its present and future revolution with their NFT projects.

CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Giant Swan

Giant Swan is an Australian digital artist who expresses himself mainly through the medium of VR.

His works are true visual experiences in which movement inspires the viewer’s emotional response.

    WHO IS GIANT SWAN?

Giant Swan is the stage name Travis Van Zanen has chosen to represent his artistic identity in his journey with digital art.

The medium through which he expresses himself is VR, a technique he has been exploring for years to create digital universes that can be experienced through videos, sculptures, images and 3D animations.

Giant Swan has been a leading figure in the VR world since 2017, and in 2019 his work comes to the attention of the art world.

The artist participated in Art Basel Miami as a guest artist in the show on art and technology. The following year, he collaborated on Godwana VR, an immersive installation with a strong emotional impact that reproduces the environment of Australia’s Daintree Rainforest.

Success in the NFT world is a natural consequence of his familiarity with digital art.

    HIS ART

The medium of expression is at the heart of Giant Swan’s artistic experimentation. His works originate from the recording of his body movements, which are then transposed into animations, images and 3D sculptures.

His contemporary influences such as Punk, Hip-Hop, pop culture and the gaming universe come together in images that are visually stimulating, catch the eye and invite you to stay and watch.

If movement is the theme that characterises Giant Swan’s creative process, the result is always marked by the experiential sphere. His works are intended for sharing and aim to provoke the viewer’s involvement.

The images Giant Swan creates develop from abstract elements such as lines and plastic shapes that unfold to reveal the familiarity of human profiles.

‘Recalling you in unrealistic fashion’ (2022) is the tale of a still moment removed from the flow of time. Two hands throw a child-like creature into the air.

The observer finds himself in the perspective of the person making the throw and is transported into an extremely intimate meeting of glances that has a bitter aftertaste of loss and abandonment.

The same melancholic vein returns in ‘The weight of this moment in time’ (2020). Two identical female figures find themselves kneeling over each other in the heart of a fantasy forest.

Giant Swan on SuperRare accompanies the work with the following words: ‘I have already been there. I know that path through that forest even though it’s been a long time now. You’ll carry that burden forever, but at some point you’ll also begin to walk with it’.

CURATOR ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS OF GIANT SWAN

Eleonora Brizi, curator and founder of Breezy Art, who curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book ‘Crypto Art Begins’ writes about Giant Swan:

“With Giant Swan we discussed movement in VR and how it is free from the laws of physics, limits and perspectives. The technology is limitless freedom and knowing how to master it guarantees the opportunity to create an infinite intimacy where the audience can forget which medium has been used.”
