CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Gordon Berger

A pioneer of Crypto Art, which he has been studying since 2011, Gordon Berger can be described as a digital painter. 

The constant elements of his production are research into the creative process and the interaction between human and digital reality.

WHO IS GORDON BERGER?

Gordon Berger’s contribution to Crypto Art can be defined with only one term: pioneering. 

The first artist to give a TEDx Talk on art and blockchain in 2018, when few foresaw its innovative potential, from a very young age he discovered a passion for the creative production process. 

When he grows up and realizes that he is not the only one who has felt this need, through the history of art he begins to understand its cultural and social function, fundamental for mankind. 

His work has always explored the creative interaction between human and digital fits organically into the NFT world.

HIS ART

Her practice focuses on painting in relation to technological impact. The intersection of digital and physical reality serves as a common thread. 

What would digital media be without the human component? According to Gordon Berger the creative gift belongs exclusively to man and technologies are only an extension of his expressive capacity. 

The creative process comes from uploading Berger’s distinctive brushstrokes to an algorithm that then combines them to generate abstract paintings. 

Artistic awareness returns, then, in the selection of which of the generative paintings to introduce into his series. 

The study of the creative process between human and digital is the subject of Gordon Berger’s latest series: “Evolve”. 13 paintings that represent the evolution of the previous one.

In how the shapes and strokes transform after each update, becoming more plastic and complex, we can see how the algorithm operates its reworkings through the artist’s direction. 

“Evolve 13” (2022) is the latest NFT in the series, an almost symmetrical image where the stroke takes on a texture, as if it were a bas-relief. The animated quality of the work shows us a light flowing through it, allowing us to appreciate its three-dimensionality.

Just to best represent the entire artistic evolution, “Evolve 0” (2022) is a white rectangle. The first interaction between artist and creation, a nothingness charged with infinite possibilities.
