In Federico Clapis’ NFTs, humanity is memory

Federico Clapis is one of the 50 artists featured in “CRYPTO ART – Begins”, the first NFT book that tells the history and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” tells the exciting beginnings and evolution of Crypto Arte through the history and work of 50 of the best artists in the world who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of the present and future of its revolution with their NFT projects.

CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Federico Clapis

Federico Clapis is a visual artist who was born as a painter and then found his expressive dimension in digital art.

His works transport us to a melancholy future in which humanity is relegated to the dimension of memory and all that remains of us is the memory in our relationship with technology.

    WHO IS FEDERICO CLAPIS?

Federico Clapis embarks on his journey with the virtual universe in an unusual way. For years he is a digital creator and produces viral content.

In 2015, at the height of his success, he decides to abandon his career on social media to get back in touch with his art.

His social presence therefore turns out to be a perfect stage to start sharing his paintings on canvas with the virtual community.

In 2021 Clapis finally takes its first steps in the world of Crypto Art.

His works with a strong digital component immediately capture the attention of the market, making the artist one of the most followed protagonists of the NFT scene.

    HIS ART

Spirituality is a recurring concept and very present in the art of Federico Clapis, where existential questions are addressed through the metaphor of technology.

This is how the images born from the artist’s mind are a manifestation of his introspective panorama, capable of visually translating his deepest emotional states and those moments in which his thought intercepts a possible image of the future.

In his work, Clapis uses different techniques such as 3D scanning and animation that help to give life to images that have both a virtual aura and a detailed realistic one.

The result is works that could portray reality if our future corresponded to a domain of technology and the virtual where what remains of humanity are relics petrified over time.

It is emblematic of this vision “End of the physical world” (2021), a work that depicts a recurring element of Clapis’ production: the “Babydrone” – a newborn curled up in a bundle and carried by a drone that takes the place of the dated stork.

In this work the Babydrone becomes a monument that seems to underline the surrounding post-apocalyptic scenario, suggesting that the human world is something so far from the present that it falls within the commemorative sphere.

The symbolic image of the newborn returns as an absent presence in “Grieving Conceptions – Flooded” (2022). The statue of a woman wearing a 3D viewer is immersed in the waters of a flooded industrial landscape.

The posture of the statue suggests that the woman is looking through the viewer at a newborn she is holding in her arms and that only she can still see.

WHAT ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS ABOUT FEDERICO CLAPIS

Eleonora Brizi, art curator and founder of Breezy Art, she’s curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book “Crypto Art Begins”, writes about him:

“A very interesting starting point from my interview with Federico Clapis for whom the use of technology also represents a sort of liberation from matter, allowing him to return to the essence of the idea – as happened with the arrival of the NFTs – and to enjoy exclusively the artistic creative act”
