    Instagram backtracks on NFTs

    Instagram backtracks on NFTs

In November 2022 Instagram announces the arrival of NFTs on the platform, but only 4 months later it backtracks. Why?

It was November 2, 2022 when a tweet from Meta announced the arrival of NFTs on Instagram only for US creators, guaranteeing zero gas fees for minting and the involvement of big names such as Refik Anadol and Olive Allen.

Just four months after the announcement, Instagram backtracked on NFTs via a Twitter thread by Stephane Kasriel – Leading Commerce & FinTech in Meta.

    THE REASONS

In the tweet dated March 14, 2023, it is Kasriel who explains the reasons that led the company to disable all functions related to Non Fungible Tokens on the platform.

In particular, the possibility of creating and then minting their works in NFT via Facebook and Instagram, then giving creators the possibility to sell NFT to their community.

Among the Blockchain networks that had been announced were Polygon and Solana, with the use of the Phantom wallet.

“We’re looking closely at what we prioritize to increase our focus. We’re winding down digital collectibles (NFTs) for now to focus on other ways to support creators, people, and businesses” – announces Stephen Kasriel, then underlining how the company has the absolute priority of continuing to look for new ways to implement revenue economics of the creators.

But not through NFTs at this point.

No other reason has been provided, beyond this tweet, leaving a bad taste in the mouth of many who already work in Web3 and are active with their works on the major NFT sales platforms.

THE REACTIONS OF THE NFT COMMUNITY

Surprise, anger and disappointment: these are the feelings that characterized the NFT Community following the announcement.

But considering Meta’s recent losses, such as the one linked to Reality Lab – a division that works on the creation of AR and VR products – with a collapse of 13 billion dollars in 2022 and Meta’s dismissal of over 11,000 employees, they are not auspicious.

Instagram and Meta have not clarified in detail why they are backtracking on NFTs – and it is not clear whether financial losses are a relevant factor – what is certain is that a change of course is leading in other directions, but not towards road of Web3 and decentralization.

Women protagonists in the art world in the form of NFTs: works, testimonials and objectives

Women protagonists in the art world in the form of NFTs: works, testimonials and objectives

As in many other sectors, women have gradually made their way into the NFT sector, especially in the art world. NFT is the acronym for Non Fungible Token, i.e. something unique that cannot be replaced by anything else. To this day, this market is constantly expanding and is sweeping the art world.

Women in the crypto and NFT sector: a few numbers

To date, women active in the crypto and NFT world are growing and expanding strongly. According to some data, in fact, the female share participating in the NFT world has quadrupled, up to 12% in the sector today.

As proof of the fact of how much women in the sector have numerically increased, just think that, until a few years ago, it was estimated that the female presence in the Blockchain and NFT sector stood at between 1% and 5% (even if he was already talking about growing numbers).

Furthermore, it emerges that in Europe the majority of participants working with Blockchain and NFTs are between the ages of 26 and 32 (36%). In Italy, there is a significant number of professionals in the sector, including over 50s, with a strong prevalence of women blockchain experts, especially in Central and Northern Italy.

Finally, it can be said that the most active women in the NFT sector are the British ones, following the traders in Germany. Not only that, a significant share of female traders are found in countries such as Slovenia, South Africa and Spain, while they are scarce in France, Italy and Switzerland. On the other hand, our country, together with the United Kingdom, has the largest share of young female traders, while France has, on average, the oldest.

Investments and works of women in Crypto Art

As regards the names of the women protagonists in works of art or investments in NFTs, there are currently numerous examples that can be reported. We see, in fact, Gracy Chen , Managing Director of Bitget , who was one of the first to invest in BitKeep , a wallet for cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

Then, we have Eleonora Brizi , curator of digital art and crypto art, founder of Breezy Art. After spending six years in China where she worked as an assistant to the artist Ai Weiwei and the curator Jerome Sans, she moved to New York in 2018.

Again, Serena Tabacchi , who is the Director and Co-Founder of MoCDA , Museum of Contemporary Digital Art, born in London in 2019. She has worked at the TATE Modern and Tate Britain in London and has been the curator of some of the very first exhibitions, international NFT exhibitions and events, such as NFT London, CADAF and CI Bloom.

Digital 3D artist, Paola Pinna was born in Cagliari, Sardinia. After completing her Fine Art Digital studies at Camberwell College of Arts in London, she returned to Italy where she works as an artist, exhibiting both online and globally. Paola has also been part of the crypto art world since the beginning of 2021.

Finally, Amelia Tomasicchio, digital marketing expert, co-founder and director of The Cryptonomist. He helped launch two NFT projects called “The NFT Magazine” and “ Cryppo ” and wrote a book on NFTs for Mondadori. She was also an author for several crypto magazines abroad and CMO of Eidoo.

Digital art as a form of affirmation for women in the crypto sector

As already mentioned, one of the tools that seem to bring women closer to the digital world seems to be NFTs, an example is the “World of Women” collection by Yam Karkai . However, there are many and talented digital artists, their works bring the female audience closer to the blockchain and bring concrete help to associations or people in difficulty.

On July 27, 2021, digital artist Yam Karkai created World Of Women, a collection of NFTs on Ethereum . The collection consists of 10,000 unique pieces (in the form of ERC-721 tokens) created by the random combination of multiple characteristics. Karkai has chosen a model that mirrors that of the CryptoPunks and the Bored Apes Yacht Club, World of Women is ready to repeat the same success. World of Women, also referred to as WoW , is based on a system that combines individual attributes with different levels of rarity. Each NFT is unique and some features make them rarer than others.

In an interview Karkai said that for the skin colors she was inspired by Fenty Beauty, Rihanna’s brand, the first in the history of makeup to cover the most diverse skin colors for its products. Indeed, in WoW you can find women with different shapes to reflect all the facets of reality. The collection was born with the intention of balancing the female presence in the NFT market, of creating a community that celebrates inclusiveness, equal opportunities.

The NFT Magazine launches the first NFT artist book with Andrea Crespi

The NFT Magazine launches the first NFT artist book with Andrea Crespi

Andrea Crespi is the new protagonist of the monograph of The NFT Magazine, launching his first NFT artist book edited by Sandie Zanini.

It is all ready for the launch of the first NFT artist book!

Once again, the international monthly magazine to be collected on Ethereum, The NFT Magazine, launches a new publication that changes the rules of Publishing in Web3 and raises the bar.

The new CryptoArt Monograph together with the third issue 2k23 of The NFT Magazine , will be available with a double drop from March 6, 2023 at 2 PM ET , both on the Nifty Gateway platform, which will last 5 DAYS for both the COVER DROP and the BookDrop NFT.

    THE FIRST NFT ARTIST BOOK

The third CryptoArt Monograph produced by The NFT Magazine becomes the first NFT artist book thanks to the intervention of Andrea Crespi.

An artist’s book is a real work of art, conceived by its creator in the form of a book but with all the characteristics of a work of art: original, unique and representative of artistic research.

In this sense, Andrea Crespi, the protagonist of the third CryptoArt Monograph, has interpreted the concept of an artist’s book by intervening with one of his unpublished works not only on the cover of the monograph but on all its pages.

Through a grid of lines – a primordial gesture of artistic creation – he traces the path to discover his art in the world of NFTs until he reveals the one who is hidden beneath those living lines: the timeless icon of the Mona Lisa.

But this new edition of CryptoArt Monograph takes on a new value: it becomes for the first time a phygital artist’s book , by its nature born as an NFT, it also finds space in the physical with the publication of the book.

    WHO IS ANDREA CRESPI

Andrea Crespi is a visual artist whose work develops in the continuous investigation of different media and themes including optical illusion, social transformation, the digital revolution, identifying art as a tool for perception and analysis of truth through the search for beauty, sometimes manifesting itself in an intimate, personal and erotic portrait of him.

He is the third Crypto Artist featured in CryptoArt Monograph, carefully curated by curator and gallery owner Sandie Zanini, who has focused on new technologies and digital tools, pushing the boundaries on the role of galleries in this new era.

Andrea Crespi | CryptoArt Monograph is the first NFT ART BOOK, a real work of art.

Within this book, by piecing together a grid of 30 layered lines, readers will be able compose a work of art depicting one of the most iconic characters in the history of art: The Famous Lisa.

    DISCOVERING CRYPTOART MONOGRAPH

The time has come to tell the great Crypto Artists, their history, their artistic research, their digital works of art, the platforms and metaverses in which they operate.

The CryptoArt series Monograph by The NFT Magazine was created in collaboration with the most important and visionary curators to tell and “mark the time” of the evolution of Crypto Art today.

After the great international success of the book “CRYPTO ART – Begins ” born from the idea and project of The NFT Magazine, published by Rizzoli, the international magazine continues the research and curatorship work on the world of Crypto Art, still to be discovered.

Thanks to CryptoArt Monograph, The NFT Magazine reveals every month the great protagonists of the digital art scene in the WEB3.

Each artist creates an unpublished NFT associated with their monograph to read and collect, with the possibility of redeeming a limited edition physical book to overcome the boundaries of Web3 Publishing arriving at the collectors’ home as well as in the metaverse . Each NFT is distinguished by a unique smart contract for the Crypto Artist, Curators and Publishers to build the story and foundation of Crypto Art.

MEET Milano presents the works of HACKATAO on display

MEET Milano presents the works of HACKATAO on display

MEET Digital Culture Center presents Remix Me #4 special event on Thursday 9 March, an artistic project by the Crypto Art duo HACKATAO.

The REMIX ME art project was born from the collaboration of the pioneering Crypto Art duo Hackatao, together with the Piselli and Partners law firm and the curator Eleonora Brizi (Breezy Art), and features over 40 artists on the NFT Makersplace platform.

THE REMIX ME PROJECT AT MEET MILAN

REMIX ME invites the Crypto Art creative community to explore the meaning and implications of remixing a work of art, aware that the “remix art” phenomenon is long-standing, but investigating it in its manifestation in the world of NFTs and their relationship to copyright and copyrights. The project does not necessarily set out to give answers, but rather to start (in 2021) and continue to develop (today) the debate, comparison and discussion.

NFT AND DYNAMIC TOKENS AS WORKS OF ART

All this through an artistic experiment where, starting from the original work of Hackatao REMIX ME, artists and creatives are invited to remix it and give their own vision of the work with the participation in three open-calls and suggesting a new perspective of regulation of recognized rights to artists and NFT owners. In turn, Hackatao will remix the remixes of their work, which will mutate its metadata within the NFT in which it was originally tokenized , using a special smart- contract named “Dynamic Token”. An NFT, therefore, that changes over time; an ever-evolving work of art.

Artistic collaboration, technology, new implications of intellectual property and copyright in the world of the web and the blockchain are all topics that will be discussed at MEET in a special evening. In a certain sense, MEET will also be “remixed” with a geo-localized augmented reality game inside and outside the building. As closing of the event, Hackatao will present the latest “Remix of Remix of Remix”.

Museums and NFTs: between purchases and donations

Museums and NFTs: between purchases and donations

More and more major museums around the world are acquiring NFTs, digital artworks and Crypto Art. The latest to take the plunge are LACMA in Los Angeles and the Center Pompidou in Paris.

The month of February turned out to be the most important for the entry of NFTs into museums:

in fact, within a few weeks of each other, there are two large institutions that announce with conviction the acquisition or the important donations of Crypto Arte and Non Fungible Token.

Objective: to expand the permanent collection and organize exhibitions and dissemination events on a world yet to be discovered.

If in the field of Publishing and Web3 excellent research projects have been carried out on the movement of Crypto Art and its protagonists, first of all ” CRYPTO ART – Begins ” born from an idea of The NFT Magazine and published by Rizzoli, the large museum institutions have slowly approached.

But now the tide seems to have changed.

There are 5 major museums that have chosen to welcome NFT works donated by collectors or acquired by institutions in their art collections. Let’s find out who they are

The #02 Joshua Davis | CryptoArt Monograph is an unexpected beautiful trip inside one of the last generative art projects of the OG Generative Artist: V01D.

#02 CryptoArt Monograph | Joshua Davis curated by Ronnie K. Pirovino

Joshua Davis is often referred to as a ‘legend’ in the digital art space.

His history of pushing the boundaries of generative, programmatic art is unquestionable. His code symphonies are operatic. The V01D codebase is one of his masterpieces that has yielded a body of artwork that is vital, arresting and gorgeous. The artwork is a glorious fusion of creativity, both human and machine. As a painter, turned programmer, computation became a way to amplify his vision. Animation and interaction presented yet another frontier. NFTs have become the ultimate way to encapsulate and archive his work, having been extremely prolific in the evolution of largely temporal interactive media on the Internet when he became famous as Praystation and won a Golden Nica from the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.

An influence for generations of digital artists and designers, Davis has a lasting legacy. The V01D codebase is a project that’s grown and mutated over nearly a decade.

A prominent icon in generative art, Davis has started to focus on his own history, aiming towards a career retrospective. This monograph is a step into creating a comprehensive catalog raisonné of his career. A book is essential to adequately cement his place in the pantheon of iconic artists. The V01D is the main subject, as this series is properly celebrated and commemorated.

All ready for the opening of Beeple Studios

He announced it and he did it: on March 11, 2023 the crypto artist Beeple inaugurates his Studios in Charleston with the aim of creating new opportunities for the Web3 Community.

Mike Winkelmann – aka BEEPLE – yesterday proudly announced on Twitter that Beeple Studios in Charleston, South Carolina will open on March 11, 2023.

The inauguration had been awaited for two years, following the historic auction at Christie’s which led to the entry of NFTs and Digital Art into the world of contemporary art, when Beeple’s rise was unstoppable.

Now the time has come for him to do his part for the Web3 Community: with the opening of Beeple Studios, a new chapter in the history of this artist begins.

    THE BEEPLE STUDIOS

The Studios were officially founded in 2021 in Charleston, the city where Beeple lives with his family, it is right here the artist created his works. In these spaces, Beeple then developed innovative multi-purpose spaces at a very high technological level within a vast industrial area – about 50,000 m2.

The Beeple Studios are made up of workspaces for artists, a 13,000 sq m exhibition gallery and an experience space: all with the aim of bringing together the Web3 community and beyond around education and a love of Digital Art.

Beeple Studios is top secret: for security reasons until the day of the space’s opening, for which slots will then be provided for visits by the general public.

For this ample space for applications by the artists, who will be able to submit – until February 1st – their works to be exhibited on the occasion of the grand opening following a selection by Beeple and its Team.

THE GRAND OPENING ON MARCH 11, 2023
